Description
- In this drill the defender gets low and dives for balls that are hit just outside of area that can be covered by a two-handed dig.
- The area that the athlete or coach should be aiming for is indicated by the thin red lines.
Evaluation :
# of reps (ex. 2 sets of 6-8)
Variations
- Rotate between players
- Left and right
Progression
- Start with slower attacks and work up towards faster.
- To advance this drill the defender could perform a juke before the attack is made.
Key points
- Remind the defender to stay low so that they can cover more ground.
- Arms need to be wide apart and relaxed with palms facing up. (or at least forward but not down)
- Athletes must be reminded to move forward toward the ball.
