Equipment : 8-12 balls, net, bench
Average duration : 15-25 minutes

Description

  1. 1 blocker, 1 defender.
The coach hits a ball cross court. The blocker must peel on the line. The defender digs the ball.
  2. Once the defender digs the ball, the blocker/defender sets the ball to the defender.
  3. The defender hits the ball on the other side of the court.
  4. Repeat.

Evaluation : # of good transition sets.

Variations

  • Right side
  • Left side
  • Rotate between the players

Progression

  1. Reading the play
The coach gives a call with his hands (line or cross) and the setter must inform the hitter
  2. Support
2nd ball is thrown quickly by the coach after the hit from the defender. The blocker must set the ball again and the defender hits on 2.
  3. Peel or stay
The blocker must decide to retreat or stay depending on the distance of the ball at the net.
  4. Add a hitter
Instead of attacking the ball on a bench, the coach throws a ball to a player that must hits the ball.
