Triangle – Setting

Gives athletes a large number of repetitions setting in a realistic situation.

Set up

# of players : 3-6 players
Ideal : 4 players
Equipment : 1 ball
Average duration : 20-35 minutes

Description

  1. 3 Players stand on the same side of the court in a triangle position.
  2. Player A at the net (facing the back of the court) hits on player B (in a defensive position).
  3. Player B digs to middle of the court.
  4. Player C sets the ball back to player A .
  5. If more than 3 players, setters rotate together only.

Evaluation : # of good sets in a row.

Progression

  1. Front sets
  2. Back sets (hit cross)
  3. 2 sets in a row
    Set to yourself, set to the target
  4. Decision-making
    Alternate between the 2 defenders (no designated setters)
  5. Off net setting
    Provoke a bad pass by hitting harder on the defender.
  6. Add more balls (2 or 3) at the same time.

Key points

  • Athletes need to be aware of the wind and how it affects the ball both before they contact it and after they contact it.

  • Fast to slow (walk)
  • Finish your last step with the contact of the ball
  • Dip, dip, push
  • Shoulders always facing the target (net)

Setting position

  • Legs and arms are pushing together
  • The leg closer to the net slightly in front
  • Bumpset : continue movement to the target
