Set up
# of players : 4-8 players
Ideal : 4 players
Equipment : 1 ball +
Average duration : 10-20 minutes
Description
- Athletes play as they would in a normal game except the ball is caught on the first contact every time the ball crosses the net.
- On catching the first ball the athlete must stay where they caught the ball and holding the ball with two straight arms simulate a pass which is then played out with a set and spike.
Variations
- Switch teams
- Switch sides
Progression
- Depending on the level of the players you can increase or reduce the amount of time that the ball can be held before it has to be released.
Key points
- The time when the ball is held gives coaches an opportunity to communicate with athletes about strategy and position.
- The focus will be different for athletes at different levels but the important concept for beginners to focus on is the position that the ideal pass should go to.
